Richmond West, writer and philosophy teacher

 My name is Richmond West, and I am a writer and philosophy instructor. My works cover religious, ethical, sexual, and philosophical themes.I am Christian, but also a pluralist and teacher of many world religions: I believe Love and Compassion can take place in any religion, when well-formulated and reflected upon critically. Hence, I am interested in Eastern religions, Native American religions, Wicca, and more.

I work with many fictional genres. To date, I have written three novels, The Deviants, Your Yesterday Is My Tomorrow, and Witch Hunt. My first two novels, both of which have won local awards, are fantasy/science fiction, while the third and most recent, Witch Hunt, is more of a common-life drama. I have a bizarre, eclectic, postmodern style which I think will stand the test of time. I am currently in the Ph.D. program in Philosophy and Literature at Purdue University, and I am very happy there (but ask me again in about three years...LOL).

Fascinated by the paranormal, I hope to be writing paranormal fiction soon as well. Planned upcoming novels include Frozen Ghost (paranormal) and Mental Ward (sequel to Witch Hunt, but dealing more explicitly with the mental health industry). I have many other stories living in my head, and hope one day to get to World Wanderer (science fiction/fantasy), The Legend of Zackarius (fantasy), Kokomo Rose (drama, perhaps also paranormal), When No One Believes in You But You (drama), Deviants Too (the first of three planned sequels to The Deviants, destined to be among the worst-selling and most hated books in history...LOL), and more paranormal books (sequels to Frozen Ghost...I'm really excited about the potential of that planned series).

What I Write

My third and most recent book, Witch Hunt, is my best novel to date.

Passionate and provocative, this novel, a spiritual and pathological journey, hits the issue of our society's sexual McCarthyism head-on, particularly as it manifests in abuses of "hostile environment" sexual "harassment" law. Lupe Diego, a lapsed Catholic philosophy professor with a feminine Spanish name, faces accusations after a relationship goes sour. Encountering gender prejudice along the way, plus faced with losing his career, Lupe struggles to find a renewed faith. Even as he sees gay friends fall under a wave of charges, when tyrannical sexual ideology rocks the campus....But Lupe pays a high price for opposing his society: in sinking into what is called "schizophrenia," Lupe finds that the greatest struggle may be for his own sanity.

My second book, Your Yesterday is My Tomorrow, won second place in the local Pell City Pens contest the year it came out. It is something of a philosophical fantasy work and timeless love story, dealing with issues of mental illness and sexuality. 

Rusty Shields, down on his luck, hears a mysterious female voice. She claims to be Diana, his twin flame, his immortal love - his soul mate. And Diana tells Rusty he is really Sodol-kai, a buddha-to-be who has encountered her in many lifetimes. 

Rusty's family and his doctors believe he suffers from schizophrenia. While in a mental hospital, Rusty writes about his past lives. Is he really suffering from schizophrenia, or is a goddess calling him from the stars? Only the reader can decide. But when the good karma runs out, will Sodol-kai lose his greatest love?

My first erotically-charged book, The Deviants, has a Christian theme concerning "the least of these," but with lots of sex and violence. Guaranteed offensive! It won third place in a local Pell City Pens contest when it came out. If you can handle the sex and violence, give it a try. My first book, it is chock-full of raw power.
